New Lens, New Light

New Lens, New Light

Finally did it. Picked up a Canon 50mm f/1.8 for my old camera body and I'm kind of annoyed I waited this long.

Shooting stained glass is all about light — the way it passes through, the way iridescent glass shifts color depending on the angle. My kit lens was fine, but something always got lost. Colors looked a bit flat. The glow wasn't there.

First few shots with the 50mm and it already feels different. The f/1.8 aperture is a lot to get used to — depth of field is razor thin — but when you nail the focus, the glass actually looks the way it does in person.

Going to reshoot some older pieces soon. Should be a noticeable difference.
