Blooming Cactus Panel — Back in the Workshop
Share
I hadn’t made the blooming cactus panel in a while. Coming back to it felt like revisiting an old sketch — familiar, but with fresh eyes.
A few things have changed since the last time. I’ve switched to a thicker border profile for the frame, and honestly it makes a big difference. The panel reads more graphically now — stronger lines, more presence on the window. It feels more intentional.
I also took the chance to experiment with glass from Youghiogheny — a maker I’ve been curious about for a while. The color depth is something else. Rich, saturated, almost juicy. When the light hits it, the greens in the cactus body glow in a way that’s hard to describe — you just have to see it in person.
The cactus is one of those designs that rewards patience. The spines alone take time — each one is a separate cut, a separate piece of glass. There’s no shortcut. But when it all comes together and you hold it up to the light for the first time, that’s the moment.
This version might be my favourite so far.
